It tried connecting via Compuserve's telnet interface which doesn't
specifically request a port address. I realised that a system requiring
the full address in one sentence requires a "colon" between the .il and
8888.
This punctuation point is missing on option 1) in the instructions sent o=
ut
but included in the web site instructions. I found the latter option the=
easiest way in although I did get caught out by a "local echo" option
which hid my own written text if not ticked!
