Hi again,

I hope these instructions make a reasonable amount of sense to you; please
email me if you have problems connecting.

Good luck!

*** INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONNECTING TO BIOMOO ***

1) Using Telnet

type telnet bioinformatics.weizmann.ac.il 8888
then either "connect your_user_name your_password" or "connect guest"
(If you connect as a guest, you will be prompted to give a name for your
guest character.)

You should then type "go pps base"

2) Using a MOO "client"

There are a number of "client" programs available which are easier to use
than telnet. If you have one of these available at your site, you should
select the site bioinformatics.weizmann.ac.il and port no. 8888, and
proceed as above.

More details about MOO clients can be found on
http://bioinformatics.weizmann.ac.il/BioMOO/reference/Clients.FAQ

3) Using BioGate, the Web-MOO Interface

You will need a browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) which is capable
of using forms. Select the URL
http://bioinformatics.weizmann.ac.il:8888/
and follow the instructions. If your browser is Java-enabled you will be
able to "embed" a text window in your browser window. If not, you will
need to connect to BioMOO in a separate window, using telnet or a client,
in order to communicate.
The web-moo interface is partially graphical - many objects are
represented by icons.

If your connection to BioMOO is very slow you can try connecting via the
Globewide Network Academy in the Netherlands. To do this, you connect to
gnalab.uva.nl, port 7777, via telnet or a client, then type the
following:-
connect guest
BioMOO
(username and password, or "guest" and guest name when prompted)
s
(You come out in the campus garden in BioMOO)
go pps base

This sounds complicated, but it isn't really. I found it much faster than
the direct connection when I was working in Poland last year.
